the waiting
when was that last post? my time is measured not in days but in time spent either at work or asleep. i've been in Madison for just under five months now and it wasn't until January 4th that i was finally able to make the break in thinking that i still lived in Pittsburgh and that being here in the Great White North was just a temporary thing. i've been back to Pittsburgh twice in the past three months, once over Thanksgiving for the worst breakup and 30th birthday package deal (it was a two for one special) and then 1/1-1/4, for the all inclusive most miserable and painful move ever.
oddly enough it really doesn't get me down all that much. it helps not having time to think about it. let's sum up:
11/23--final, drawn out breakup with the girl i didn't want to fall for but did anyway, because that's how i do things. walk back to my hotel room in Pittsburgh through wet, sloshy snow and can't discern if those are tears or just precipitation on my face.
11/24--turning thirty on Thanksgiving should be something to celebrate with your family. instead, because of circumstance and situation i spent it with a couple of friends that i haven't seen in a year who didn't even remember that it was my birthday. and no, i'm just not the type to bring it up either. drove back to Madison that night also.
12/25--Merry Effing Christmas. i drank a bottle of Jameson, watched endless reruns of Law& Order, and called it a day.
12/31--i was in the middle of inventory when 2006 hit. Happy Effing New Year.
1/1--drove to Columbus to see my sister and her family for a couple hours, got to Pittsburgh for the big life move into storage around 10:30 p.m. discover that nothing is open on 1/2, meaning no moving truck and basically packing stuff up. call the restaurant there and tell them to save all the boxes from the delivery on Tuesday. get truck Tuesday morning, stop by restaurant, all boxes have been compacted. move all the big stuff with the help of my good buddy George and Joe, drive to storage unit, and then do a massive reorganization in under 2 hours. do some more packing, watch OSU beat up on Notre Dame (perhaps the only good thing that happened), called it a day. Wednesday morning up at 8, and thanks to all my friends who flaked out on me commenced to move my life out of the IRS owned duplex at 3345 Parkview and into storage. by myself. after two trips in the moving truck and dropping it off, i finally leave Pittsburgh at 11 p.m. EST. get back to Madison at 9 on Thursday, and walk into work at 10.
i've moved a lot of people and this was perhaps the worst move ever. i honestly don't remember the next couple days, simply because everything was numb.
so. how was your "holiday season?"
