And I'll be anything you ask and more
...it's not a miracle we needed...

I took a reservation a little over two weeks ago for a graduation party. No big deal. It was for a former employee that I personally had to fire, but we have since remained on good terms. It wasn't pleasant, the firing that is, but again, she got back on her feet immediately the next day and no hard feelings. Or so I thought.
I don't usually have to vent these days, as things are pretty damn good and copacetic, but, as the comment boards tend to put it these days (and I am convinced they have no idea what this word means), it was a bit soul-crushing.
Took the reservation for 30-40 people, with the assurance that it would be closer to 30. No big deal. I knew there was going to be a problem when, after ten minutes and drinks had been set out and initial appetizer orders were out, they started complaining about how long it took to get their food, drinks, etc.
After the entire group had arrived (52 was my final count on people) they continued to berate my staff and wonder why a manager hadn't addressed the situation. I hadn't been out on the floor because I was currently dropping fries, endless orders of chicken tenders, and trying to ensure that instead of absolute chaos happened it was only entire chaos. Thanks and thanks alone to their party, it did end up being absolute chaos.
Thanks to their rudeness to my staff and myself, the inability to have any kind of social skills whatsoever, constant intrusive and invasive behavior in regards to all the other people who where at my establishment just to watch the third game of the NBA finals, and general contempt for everything, I've had the pleasure of banning entire families from my establishment.
There are minor perks to working for a private company versus a corporation. This would be one of the bigger ones. Knowing that after I finish my documentation on this idiocy and get it to the owner and (fingers crossed) he knows I'm not feeding him a line, he'll back me 110% on this.

The coda to this is that when I initially took this reservation, I knew, Goddamnit I knew better than to take it, because it was going to be nothing but one headache after another. I swear I gotta listen to the inner voices a bit more often. Would have saved me a world of hurt and probably a lot of labor. Worst fact to realize: Considering how bad my labor was that night, I would have been better off without that party.
Especially since I had to comp over $130 worth of food and drink, because the associated parties couldn't be found (walking out on a tab constitutes stealing, BTW, so if I did know the people involved that walked on their tab they would be in county lock up right now).
All in all, I learned my lesson. I'm just hoping it doesn't have many ramifications upon myself or my staff. If tonight was any sign, I think people know that this party were just a bunch of assholes and are lucky to still be alive after all these years. Social Darwinism hasn't reached this far south yet apparently.

I'm posting this with the same idea as when I was asking myself about rain in Madison. We'll see what the fallout is from this.
