get up
the major things in life: work that may/not matter, a place to live, books, and music. transportation in between is nice.
what sucks about growing older is that you end up caring less about a lot of the peripherals. music, literature, film, they get thrown to the wayside because you have to concentrate on family. kids, family, etc. granted this is an outsiders view of things but since this is what i grew up with and tend to know a few people with these concerns, i think i have a minor idea of what i'm talking about.
but i don't. in all reality, i do have some kind of idea of what it's like to have a kid, or be living with someone, or dealing with a long distance relationship. do i need to mention the parents involved. or mentioning the parent that may be downstairs while you're sleeping with their daughter? that's always fun as well.

i've tried to be the nice guy most of my life. there have been phases where i've definitely been a dick, but it's usually been in a business context. i'm finding more and more that i have to be a dick in life as well, as it is the only way anything progresses. is this really necessary?

i guess what it comes down to is that it's tough to work constantly with people that were maybe born by the time i graduated high school. sometimes, much later. i just hired a host whose 17th birthday was this last sunday. nothing quite like hiring a girl who could easily be your daughter, had i had that irresponsibility when i was...18.
geez.
geez is two letters away from geezer. get off my lawn, dammit.

to bring it full circle, i do still pay attention to music, movies, etc. don't have anything else going for me right now so why not? in regards to music, i highly recommend the more upbeat songs by jonquil, a group out of england who seem to get compared to Vampire Weekend but are not VW. i say this simply because VW sucks. I have gone so far as to force myself to like them with me only disliking them even more. jonquil is essentially the same musical style yet...i like them. i also like old school math rock and finally watched The Avengers this last weekend.
i liked Star Trek Into Darkness. aside from bringing Kirk back to life it was pretty damn good. and apparently making Spock a force to be reckoned with. i could point out a few other idiocies but they are few and far between. i'm sitting here in a wife beater and underwear, typing on a two year old HP laptop, and that movie made just shy of $500 million. i think we know who's doing a bit better these days.
*
on the other hand, i'm listening to great music. i have a few good books around me, wifi, and the new (and perhaps last) Theroux sitting on my nightstand.
in all reality, this may be a golden age for information: access (with fee, depending) to nearly everything. think about it: wikipedia, which has its' faults (i am a moderator, after all), blogging, but also instant access to all news, not just local, but national and global.
no secret is too small.
